Resumo: Este artigo explora as recentes tentativas de apresentar um conceito ampliado  de  classe  trabalhadora,  a fim  de  responder  tanto  à  recente  configuração  das  relações  de  trabalho  no  capitalismo  contemporâneo,  quanto  às formas  históricas  de  exploração  envolvidas  no  processo  de  acumulação  de capital. Combinando dados de pesquisa histórica e discussão historiográfica, o principal argumento do artigo é que a necessária ampliação do conceito de classe trabalhadora é compatível com as discussões de Marx e Engels, assim como com a melhor tradição do materialismo histórico do século XX.

The working class: a contemporary approach under the light of historical materialism

Abstract: This paper explores the recent attempts to present an enlarged concept  of  the  working  class,  in  order  to  answer  both  to  the  recent  configuration  of  labor  relations  in  contemporary  capitalism  and  the  historical  forms of  exploitation  involved  in  the  process  of  capital  accumulation.  Combining historical research data and historiographical discussion, the main argument of this paper is that the necessary enlargement of the concept of the working class  is  compatible  with  Marx’s  and  Engels’s  discussions,  as  well  as  with  the best tradition of historical materialism in the twentieth century.
