Resumo: Nos Quaderni del carcere, Antonio Gramsci tratou dos jacobinos e do jacobinismo aproximando-os de temas fulcrais como partido e hegemonia. Sua análise do grupo político e da Revolução Francesa dialogou com o historiador francês Albert Mathiez, que contribuiu com uma mudança decisiva: do anti-jacobinismo radical afirmado em seus primeiros anos na imprensa socialista, Gramsci passou a uma leitura que reconhecia a eficácia e o realismo da atuação jacobina e a possibilidade desta contribuir para a reflexão sobre a estratégia socialista. Este artigo reconstrói a interlocução de Gramsci com os estudos históricos de Mathiez ocorrida no ocaso da I Guerra e quando o francês ocupava um espaço importante nos meios intelectuais italiano e francês. A aproximação demonstra também a atenção de Gramsci aos debates acadêmicos do começo do século XX acerca da nova historiografia francesa sobre a Revolução, que tinha em Mathiez um nome central.

Antonio Gramsci and Albert Mathiez: jacobin and jacobinism during the war

Abstract: IIn his work, Quaderni del Carcere [Prison notebooks], Antonio Gramsci discussed the Jacobins and Jacobinism bringing them closer to center issues as political parties and hegemony.His analysis of the political group and of the French Revolution proposed a dialog with the work of the French historian, Albert Mathiez, who contributed with a decisive change: from Gramsci’s early anti-Jacobin articles to his recognition of the effectiveness and pragmatism of the Jacobin political action and their contribution to the socialist strategy. The present article reconstructs the interlocution of Gramsci’s writings with the historical studies that Mathiez developed and introduced in both French and Italian intellectual circles at the end of the First World War. It also demonstrates the importance of Gramsci’s attention to the academic debates around Mathiez and the emergence of a new historiography of the French Revolution.
