Resumo: O presente artigo tem por objetivo apresentar e discutir as contribuições de Engels para o que chamamos de uma “teoria do bonapartismo ”. Nesse sentido, o texto aborda as mais importantes elaborações do teórico alemão sobre o fenômeno bonapartista, com destaque para suas análises acerca do regime bismarckista, no qual um novo e centralizado aparelho estatal, gozando de autonomia face às classes sociais, dirigiu um acelerado processo de industrialização.

Engels and the theory of Bonapartism
Abstract: This article aims to present and discuss the contributions of E ngels to what we call a “theory of Bonapartism”. In this sense, the text addresses the German theoretician’s most important elaborations on the Bonapartist phenomenon, highlighting his analyses about Bismarck’s regime, in which a new and centralized state apparatus, enjoying autonomy in relation to the social classes, has led an accelerated industrialization process.
